If you're a bonafide Bluey buff like this writer, you'll have no doubt kept track of the recent developments announced by Ludo Studio on the show's blog. You'll also know that the exciting new reveals come with a bittersweet message from Bluey creator Joe Brumm.
Bluey's fourth season is inevitable, and fans have been bananas for the beloved blue dog for years now. However, while the upcoming season was alluded to in the most recent update, it came with the news that Brumm would not be involved.
Bluey Without Brumm
Along with the official announcement of Bluey: The Movie, Joe Brumm shared a letter to the fanbase on the show's official blog, stating that he would focus all his time and energy towards crafting the movie, but he would ultimately be stepping away from the show. Although he reassured the readers, he also shared a little about season four.
In the letter, Brumm writes,
"I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last. This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series. In the event I can’t wrap my head around doing more seasons myself, The Sign will mark my TV finale for Bluey and I wrote it as such."
However, the creator also made the following statement before signing off.
"To be clear, this is not an announcement about the end of the show, but it is an acknowledgment that my focus will be on the film."
Fans can heave a sigh of relief that Bluey is far from finished, but the idea of its creator stepping away does give many pause. If the show is not ending as he says, it has to mean that a fourth season is well underway. That's certainly good news, but will it be the same experience fans have come to enjoy since 2018?
In the letter, Brumm also promises that Bluey, Bingo, and the rest of their canine companions have been left in the best of hands. Season 4 will undoubtedly be a different flavor from the episodes we're used to, but that doesn't mean that the team at Ludo will deviate from the quality set before.
If anything, this could be a new and exciting opportunity for our favorite cartoon dog, and new creatives can tell new stories. Right now, all we can do is wait and count down the days to her big silver screen debut.
All episodes of Bluey can currently be streamed on Disney+ and ABC iView.
