Bluey buffs everywhere rejoiced when it was announced that the beloved Australian animated series was set to get its first full-length feature film. As Bluey, Bingo, and all their cartoon canine companions get ready for their big-screen debut, one problem has already reared its ugly head.
Longtime watchers will know that just because it's her name on the title, it doesn't mean Bluey has the most spotlight. In fact, many would argue that some of the show's best episodes see her taking a support role. That's not necessarily an issue, but it feels like there needs to be a major refocus for the film.
Does Bluey need more Bluey?
Bluey herself has quickly become one of the most beloved and recognizable cartoon characters of the last decade, but some of her show's most recent episodes see her taking a backseat. Not including the episodes surrounding "The Sign" special, there has arguably been more focus on her friends and family.
From "Cubby" to "Cricket," only three episodes out of the latest installment of Season 3 feature Bluey in a main role, Even then, she's always assisted in some way by Bingo. In this writer's opinion, the show essentially needs more of its titular character if they're getting ready to bring her to the big screen.
That all being said, Bluey's movie doesn't even come out until 2027. That means that Disney and Ludo have time to give us that long-awaited fourth season to put our favorite cartoon dog back in the spotlight.
Here is one prediction we can make; Season 4 could see Bluey taking more of a lead role again, as well as giving the show's support cast to come out of her shadow. Whatever happens, we can rest in knowing that the fanbase will absolutely eat it up.
Bluey and all her friends can be found on Disney+ and ABC iView.
