The Man Without Fear is back in the first trailer for Daredevil: Born Again! Check out the action coming to Disney+ this March!
Just as the MCU was getting underway, Netflix was branching out with its own shows based on the "street level" heroes of the Marvel Universe. First up was Daredevil, which had already been adapted into a 2002 film starring Ben Affleck.
The show centered on Matt Murdock, blinded as a child by chemicals that also gave him enhanced senses and a "radar sense." He uses those as the masked vigilante Daredevil while also working as a lawyer.
The show was a huge success, which inspired spinoffs of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. That led to all the characters teaming up in The Defenders. Sadly, the entire Netflix line was canceled in 2018 when Disney asserted more control over the characters. They were then removed from Netflix in 2022 to migrate to Disney+.
Thankfully, Charlie Cox aided Peter Parker as Matt in a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He then reprised the role of Daredevil (in a new yellow costume) in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Now, Daredevil is back in the first full trailer for the new series, subtitled Born Again. The title references what many consider the greatest Daredevil story of all time, a 1986 epic written by Frank Miller that broke the character down. That's a lot to live up to and the trailer looks great!
What's coming in Daredevil: Born Again?
The trailer's opening addresses the six-year gap since the Netflix show, with Matt meeting Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), who talks of how it's been a long time since they met. We also learn Fisk is now the mayor of New York, a big step up for him.
We see some familiar faces, such as Matt's old friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), aide Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Matt having a harsh meeting with Frank Castle, aka the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). There's even a glimpse of Ben Poindexter (Wilson Bethel), who seems set to become DD's other archenemy, the deadly Bullseye.
There are also new characters, such as Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes), who suits up as the crimefighter the White Tiger. A big push is the mysterious killer known as Muse, a twisted "artist" who may force Matt and Fisk to work together.
Best of all, the trailer is exactly what fans wanted from a DD series: Dark and gritty action, some fantastic set pieces, a sinister mood, and just like the Netflix series. Any worries Disney might water it down look for naught and thus, the show lives up to its name as Daredevil: Born Again is a true rebirth of the character in the MCU.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres Tuesday March 4 on Disney+.
