Disney grows desperate, 'Bluey' partnership might be a hail mary

Bluey coming to Disney was inevitable, but this update reeks of desperation.

Big things are on their way for The Walt Disney Company, one of which is a triumphant partnership with Ludo Studios and Bluey creator Joe Brumm. While there was much rejoicing amongst the fans last week, this news might be concealing a big problem for the House of Mouse.

As thrilled as we all are (especially this writer) to see Bluey and Bingo come to the Disney Parks and receive their first official feature-length film, Disney should have done this years ago. Given the recent developments from the studio and the theme parks this year, Disney might actually need Bluey now more than ever.

How Bluey Will Save the Studio

It doesn't take a genius to know that Bluey is one of the most beloved cartoon characters seen in the past decade. However, Ludo owns a tremendous amount of its success thanks to Disney's involvement.

Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli have all become household names largely thanks to their presence on Disney+, quickly becoming one of the most streamed titles on the entire platform (as seen here). However, it speaks volumes when the most successful series on Dinsey+ isn't Disney's.

As much as we love Disney and the magic it creates, it's still a massive multi-billion-dollar corporation with a goal to make money. Given the massive impact Ludo's beloved blue heeler has had on both kids and their parents, it makes perfect sense that Disney would want to snatch it up, especially after a rocky 2024.

2025 is set to be the year of the Blue Heeler, as the recent partnership between Disney and Ludo promises to bring the characters into the magical land of the mouse. However, after recent drama at the box office this year, it might be more than a lifeline than Disney advertises.

As of now, the most success Disney has had this year is Inside Out 2 (2024), which took many by surprise after the studio's "flop era" last year. After both Moana and Mufasa failed to meet financial expectations, Disney needs its next winner, and fast.

As Bluey continues to be a pop culture staple, Disney has been waiting in the wings to pounce. There's no way Bob Iger and Josh D'Amaro haven't seen how much their consumers have devoured the series with a spoon. Now, all they have to do is deliver what fans have been wishing for.

Additionally, the Disney Parks are also facing some serious competition. As Universal Studios prepares to open its Epic Universe expansion, Disney needs something to tide guests over until their Villain-themed land arrives.

While this is simply the speculation of a dedicated Disney fan and Bluey buff, there's no denying that things are coming together. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, as the saying goes.

While we might not see much Bluey activity until January 2025, fans can still enjoy all the series has to offer on Disney+ until then.
