One of the main focal points of Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Here, guests assume the roles of pilot, gunner, and engineer as they take the ship on a mission led by Hondo Ohnaka. As thrilling as it is, not all roles in this journey are created equal.
Pilots and gunners have all the fun, steering the ship and blasting the devil out of whatever threat comes their way, but the engineers only get to sit and press light-coded buttons. That might be fun for parents who want to get off their feet after schlepping through the parks, but for true Star Wars fans? It's like getting the short straw. Fortunately, Disney is about to fix that.
Grogu hitches a ride with a new update!

It was recently revealed that Smuggler's Run is set to receive new planetary destinations inspired by Grogu and the Mandalorian, an addition that (in this writer's opinion) is long overdue. However, the new additional story arc comes with an additional treat: engineers get to take care of Grogu!
The Disney Parks Blog made this official statement regarding the new expansion,
"Starting May 22, 2026 at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will allow guests to control the iconic ship like never before. For the first time ever, the crew will be in control of their own destination, leading to potential adventures on Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or the just-announced bustling city-planet, Coruscant. Another new gameplay addition allows the engineer positions to communicate with Grogu during the mission."
The new development is undoubtedly very exciting, and will breathe new life into the iconic fixture. The real question is, how will fans respond to the new additions?
In this writer's opinion, Smuggler's Run could be under siege by a swarm of fans (particularly families and children). Since Grogu is one of the most marketable characters on Disney's roster since Stitch, fans can probably expect a crowd increase for a good while.
One thing that will remain the same with these new changes is the love for the galaxy far, far away. All fans at Galaxy's Edge want to do is simply be a part of it.
The new Smuggler's Run experience opens May 22, 2026.
