Disney shuts down entire park days before Christmas

When you build a Christmas-themed park, it feels counterproductive to close it right before the holidays.

DISNEY PARKS MAGICAL CHRISTMAS DAY PARADE - Hosted by Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro, “Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade” returns Christmas morning with its annual parade, endearing stories, and magical performances from Walt Disney World Resort in Florida; Disneyland Resort in California; Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko’Olina, Hawaiʻi; and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas. WEDNESDAY, DEC. 25 (10:00 a.m. EST) on ABC and (11:00 a.m. EST) on Disney+.

Many yearly visitors would agree that one of the best times of year to visit the Disney Parks is during the holiday season. Both Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort are decked out in their Christmassy best, and the festive vibe is absolutely infectious. However, not all parks are getting with the spirit.

The Walt Disney World Resort has multiple iconic parks to enjoy Christmas, especially with the new Jollywood Nights additions and the traditional fun spent at both Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs. However, Blizzard Beach with its snow and Santa-theming is officially off the guest list.

As Walt Disney World gears up for its yearly televised Christmas parade, one of the many Florida properties is shutting its doors. While the weather might keep fans out of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, it feels weird building a water park with Christmassy themes and shutting it down the week of its inspiration.

A Blue Christmas at Blizzard Beach

It was recently announced that Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon would be closing their gates due to dropping temperatures. Looking at its official page, potential guests will find no open times. While that's obviously a no-brainer, it also feels weird for Disney not to utilize the backdrop for some of the parks' holiday celebrations.

While we don't know many tourists eager to slip into their swimsuits in 60-degree weather or less, it seems like the Disney Parks would use this festive setting for some of their marketing. Either way, those looking for a frosty atmosphere with their waterslides and wave pools will simply have to wait until summer.

While we probably won't see much action or activity at either of Disney's water parks until 2025, the rest of the Disney Parks have their gates wide open for Christmas and beyond. Visiting guests can get their holiday fill until the first week in January. Until then, let the lights shine!

Disney's Christmas season runs from November 11- December 31 of this year.
