Fans are excited for the new season of the Disney+ original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians! Disney confirmed earlier in March that the release of season two will be in December this year, but there was no exact date given just yet.
According to Deadline, filming started in Vancouver a week before the D23 Expo in August last year. They wrapped filming in February (says TV Insider), and should be well into post-production by now. A December premiere seems logical, and it'll be parallel to the December 19 release of their first season in 2023, which centered around Rick Riordan's first book in the series, The Lightning Thief.
If they try to stick close to a similar release date to season one, there could be a possible premiere for season two a week before Christmas, or even the day after, but no one knows for sure. There's no doubt Disney will let us know the closer we get to the end of this year, but hopefully, they'll give us an update in another few months.
Should season 2 continue to be released on Tuesdays, it's possible we could see Percy Jackson on Tuesday, Dec. 16 which would follow a similar release pattern to what we saw in season 1. This would also help Disney+ drop a second (or possibly third) episode before the Christmas holiday the following week.
The second season will follow the storyline of the next book titled, The Sea of Monsters. The third season, which received a greenlight right after filming wrapped for season two, will be based on the third book, The Titan's Curse. If they do well (and it's obvious they will), fans would want them to continue to do at least another two seasons after that, covering the stories from the third and fourth books.
While we don't know everything yet, it's unlikely this series will be cancelled anytime soon, if at all. Whether they will make more seasons from the newest books Riordan has released, or possibly turn them into movies following the series, remains to be unseen as well. But everything seems to be running smoothly for the team behind the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series so far.
Even though we hope they can begin filming for season three soon, we don't want everything rushed, so everyone most likely wants them to take their time to make sure it's great! But not too much time, of course, since the young actors in the series still need to look accurate to their age in the story. No matter what issues they run into though, they're sure to easily work around them.
