Disney debuts first look at new Moana 2 merchandise

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a decade since Moana first set sail on her journey and captivated audiences across the globe, but our favorite Disney heroine is finally making her way back to the big screen for the exciting chapter in her story!

This time around, Moana is once again going to take to the sea for another adventure, but this time, it won’t just be Maui and Heihei joining her.

“In the first film, Moana goes on this epic adventure and she really comes into her own as a wayfinder and it was so important to us as we were making the second film that we didn't try to reinvent who she was, but that we started to expand her world and we really started asking ourselves what's next for Moana? What new kind of leadership goals can she have in this film? It only made sense that we'd bring a crew along on the journey and the crew we came up with, are they the best crew in the world? No, but they're a lot of fun and they really test the kind of leader,” director and co-writer Dana Ledoux Miller teased of the film during a special sneak peek of the new Moana 2 merchandise.

With Moana now being joined by a crew of new and familiar friends, the sequel will get to explore new facets of the character in many ways as she looks ahead to the future.

“In the first film, one of the most important relationships for Moana was her relationship with her grandmother. Her grandma makes a surprise appearance in Moana 2, and she says something that really became a core theme for this movie. She tells Moana that you never stop choosing who you are,” Miller teased of the film. “So as Moana is called by her ancestors to go on a new epic journey, she's forced to really reconcile with the idea that she never stops evolving. And even though it's really hard for her to leave her family behind, especially her little sister, she's forced to really think about what she wants the future to look like for her sister and that's really what propels her off into the ocean again.”

Audiences are eager to rejoin Moana, Maui, Heihei, and Pua on their new journey, and we can’t wait to meet the film’s new characters including Moana’s little sister Simea, who has already won fans over in the film’s teasers. And as we heart up for our return to the waters to see how far Moana will go in this new adventure, Disney is making it easy to continue the adventure beyond the screen through a wave of new Moana 2-inspired products coming later this year.

“I'm a Disney kid in that I grew up watching Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid, and those movies sparked my imagination. So I think it's really important and exciting that we lean into that with Moana too, that people get to go home and continue the adventure on their own,” Miller enthusiastically shared in celebrating the launch of the new Moana 2 products fans will soon be able to bring home!

Disney is going all out with its promotion for the film, teaming up with several of its longtime partners to bring fans new merchandise inspired by Moana 2 with exciting new items from Mattel, LEGO, American Girl, Funko, and more!
