Disney Lorcana's next major expansion set, Rise of the Floodborn, arrives this month. While many are still struggling to find cards from The First Chapter, there's optimism surrounding this next set.
With just a few weeks to go until Rise of the Floodborn arrives, here's everything you need to know about its release, including where you'll be able to find cards, the different products avaliable for purchase, and the types of cards that will be introduced.
When does Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn release?
Like The First Chapter, Ravensburger is releasing Rise of the Floodborn in two waves. The first wave of supply will release first at local game stores, beginning November 17th.
A few weeks later, Rise of the Floodborn will release at big box retailers, like Walmart, Best Buy and Target, on December 1st.
Ravensburger has been adamant about supporting local game and hobby stores, although I'm not a huge fan of this approach. While I understand wanting to support local game stores, there have been reports of some stores charging well over MSRP. This sort of price gouging has resulted in the game becoming unaffordable for many.
In other cases, it's a matter of inconvenience. I live near four Target stores — all within a 15-minute drive in any direction. The closest local game store carrying Lorcana cards is at least a 30 minute drive with no traffic. As someone who works full time and has two kids under the age of five, it's too inconvenient to make the trek —especially if I don't call in advance.
What is new in Rise of the Floodborn?
Set 2 will introduce 200 new cards into the game. The cards will feature characters from Disney animated hits like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Zootopia, The Jungle Book and more.
There also a new Keyword: Resist. This indicates how much additional damage characters may be able to withstand.
Can you pre-order Rise of the Floodborn?
I can't say for certain as I think it varies from game store to game store. There seems to be a lot of uncertainty regarding the supply of Rise of the Floodborn. Local game stores are hesitant to take pre-orders because they don't know how much supply they'll be getting. Others are taking pre-orders, but charging well above the MSRP.
As far as bigger retailers, I haven't seen pre-orders go up at stores like Target or Walmart.
What Rise of the Floodborn products are there?
Set 2 will introduce two more Starter Decks: Amber/Sapphire and Amethyst/Steel. Each deck will include everything you need to start playing: a starter deck of 60 cards (offering a unique play style), 2 foil cards of the characters on the front package, 11 tokens, 1 rulebook and a booster pack with 12 randomized cards. The starter decks will sell for $16.99, although scalpers could double or triple the MSRP.
In addition to the starter decks, there will be a new Set 2 Illumineers Trove. The trove will sell for $49.99 and includes two deck boxes, 8 booster packs, 15 game tokens and a player's token. Finally, you'll be able to purchases additional booster packs separately as well as Riseo f the Floodborn accessories (card boxes, playmats and more).
The biggest in-demand item with this release, however, is the Disney Lorcana: Disney100 Edition. This special Collecton Set contains six cards: three from The First Chapter and three from Rise of the Floodborn. These cards feature never-before-seen alternate artwork drawn by Walt Disney Animation Studios' animators. The Disney Lorcana: Disney100 Edition will arrive on December 1st, alongside the wide release of Rise of the Floodborn.
Coinciding with the launch of Set 2 will be the reprint of The First Chapter.
