Disney Lorcana officially hit mass retail in September and less than two months later, it's been nearly impossible to find the cards anywhere. The latest collectible trading card game from Ravensburger sold out immediately upon release and is in such high demand that whatever stock they have can't keep up.
Back in August, Ravensburger addressed the supply issues, promising to take steps that "ensure a level of availability and quality that keeps the market healthy for both collectors and players."
This included additional booster product that was slated to arrive at North American local game stores in October.
Well, October is nearly at an end and Disney Lorcana cards remain nearly impossible to find. I suppose it depends on where you live and what retailers you are checking, but the majority of people looking to purchase cards are unable to do so because they just can't be found.
So has Ravensburger delivered the additional product to retailers? It's hard to say.
I got lucky early on with starter packs but that was in early September. I was never able to find booster packs or anything else since then. I check both big box retailers and my local game stores regularly and it's usually the same answer: they don't have any in stock and don't know when they'll get any more shipments.
Now it's worth noting that some people have been lucky. I hear stories of people who pop into their local Walmart or Target and find booster packs or starter decks, but it's far and few between.
The majority of people, it seems, are experiencing frustration in their search.
It's also not confirmation that any supply at stores are part of the supposed October restock. It's possible that these are just original stock making their way to store shelves.
At this point, we don't know what the status is on the October restock. And Ravensburger has been pretty quiet on the subject. They seem more focused on the upcoming launch of Set 2: Rise of the Floodborn.
Now there is some hopeful news. Ravensburger has already confirmed that they are reprinting The First Chapter, and it's scheduled to arrive this holiday season alongside Rise of the Floodborn product.
But again details are vague. We know Rise of the Floodborn releases November 17 at local game stores, but we don't know when the reprtints will arrive in store. We also don't know how much supply there will be this time around.
The most frustrating thing in all of this is simply Ravensburger's lack of communication. I don't know if they just didn't expect Disney Lorcana to be this popular, but they need to up their community managing skills.
