The Marvel Cinematic Universe was once the "must-watch" event of the summer seasons. Then, the MCU success, like a snap from Thanos' fingers, evaporated. Now, Disney-owned property is hoping that it can regain the momentum it lost.
Two films will try and save the MCU from itself. Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World. The question is, which one will put the MCU back into their box-office perch?
Early views of the next Deadpool movie have been through the roof. The first 35 minutes of the film were shown to select critics and the feedback was fantastic. One review said that "This could be the film that returns the MCU to it's glory." There is a lot riding on the success of Deadpool & Wolverine and early ticket sales are suggesting a blockbuster hit is on tap, at least opening weekend numbers. The question will be the legs from one week to another.
Disney doesn't have long to wait. The film will start rolling out July 25th across the U.S. with international markets staggered. Tickets for the film are already on sale.
Captain America: Brave New World will not roll out until February 14, 2025. The film was pushed back from its original release, July 26th which was taken over by Deadpool. Captain America will be the first standalone not to feature Chris Evans or Steve Rogers. The shield will be picked up by Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson.
Deadpool & Wolverine will mark the second time that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were together in a Superhero Film. They both shared the screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds played Wade Wilson in that version of Deadpool but was not the "Mouthy-Merc" we know him as today.
Both films are hoping to take the MCU back to its better box office days. The last several MCU films have not been good critically or otherwise. The Marvels is considered one of the worst films in the MUC and that is saying a lot considering Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
