Looks like Ryan Gosling has landed the leading role in Shawn Levy's new film, Star Wars: Starfighter! The news was announced live in Chiba, Japan, just outside Tokyo on April 18 during Day 1 of the Star Wars Celebration.
Shawn Levy confirmed the rumors circling the media, calling it "a dream come true" that the former Mouseketeer was joining the cast, according to an article from ABC News. The movie is a standalone, meaning it's not part of any storyline in the series so far. It will have a new set of characters, and will even be set in a different period of time than previous movies.

Many directors have been lucky to lead the filming process for each of the Star Wars movies in the past, and now Shawn Levy has been given the exciting opportunity to direct one as well.

All the juicy details of the Star Wars: Starfighter story have been kept under wraps, except for a few small bits of information. All we know so far is that it's set approximately 5 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX- The Rise of Skywalker, and that they're set to begin filming later this Fall.
The movie is expected to release in theaters, May 28th, 2027. With all the hype from Gosling being added to the cast, fans are even more excited for the movie's debut.
It looks like the movie is off to a great start already, with a fantastic director behind the film, and one of Hollywood's talented A-List actors! There's no doubt the movie is on it's way to becoming a success!
Of course, fans still have many questions about the film, like "Who's Ryan's character?", "Who else is part of the cast?", or "Where does the story take place?" All off those questions will have to wait as they get the ball rolling on the film.
We know they have the script, and according to Ryan Gosling, it's pretty great. But the good news is, we may not have to wait too much longer (if you don't think several months is all that bad) because we may get more info by the time they start filming later.
We'll all just have to be satisfied with what we know now... or keep scouring the internet for more clues. If you just need something Star Wars to fill the void, watch (or rewatch) Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, or check out the film Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker.
