Disney fans everywhere might be putting away their Christmas decorations and putting the stockings back in storage, but that doesn't mean we can't keep warm with a little Disney magic during the winter months. Although Santa Claus is back at the North Pole, we can still keep watching our frosty favorites.
The time between Christmas and New Year's might feel like something of a holiday limbo, but that doesn't mean we still can't have a little fun. Since there's practically a Disney movie for every occasion, here are some of our Disney+ picks for beating back those after-holidays blues.
Toy Story That Time Forgot (2014)
While we might be cheating a little with this TV movie from Disney and Pixar, it technically happens directly after Christmas. As Bonnie brings Woody and the gang over to her friend Mason’s to play with their new Christmas gifts, Woody, Buzz, Trixie, and Rex are thrown into the chaotic world of Mason’s Battlesaurs action figures.
It's short, it's silly, but it acts as a near-perfect bridge between the seasons. We have time to enjoy our newfound holiday treasures but also look forward to the next time we get to go play.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)
Although Father Christmas has a brief cameo, Disney's adaptation of C.S. Lewis' iconic fantasy novel is loaded to the brim with winter themes and fantastical sights. As the Pevensie children battle the White Witch with the mighty Aslan, the ice melts into new adventures in the land of Narnia.
By little exaggeration, this is Disney's answer to Lord of the Rings, and it certainly has that sense of epic scale. While it might be associated with Christmastime, it's only a passing relationship. Come for the Turkish delight, stay for the thrilling battle between good and evil.
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
In this writer's opinion, no winter binge is complete without a trip to a galaxy far, far away. The Empire Strikes Back is a classic Star Wars flick, and the ice planet of Hoth kicks the adventure off to a very snowy start.
Mandatory watching for any Star Wars fan, this sci-fi icon is ideal for staying warmer than a Taun-Taun while the winds blow outside your rebel base. It’s a perfect way to stay cozy before ringing in the new year at Cloud City.
The Frozen series
Of course, what list of wintry Disney Classics would be complete without the company's biggest cash cow? Elsa, Anna, Kristof, Sven, and Olaf have been a part of the Disney image for years and the snow queen's icy grip won’t be letting us go any time soon.
Whether it's the two original films or one of the spinoff shorts, there’s something truly infectious about Disney’s frosty fairytale. While the first film might be better set for Christmas viewings, there’s no doubt the two royals from Arendelle have already made themselves at home with countless fans before the tree even went up.
All these frozen favorites and more can be found on Disney+
