In the galaxy far, far away, many stories have echoed across the cosmos. Tales of heroic Jedi, evil Sith Lords, swashbuckling smugglers, and noble Mandalorians have enchanted viewers for decades, but still... one voice has yet to be heard.
As the Star Wars universe continues to expand, new stories are told with every iteration. As creative masterminds like Dave Filoni and Taika Waititi prepare to grace fans with their own original cinematic offerings, they might be missing a golden opportunity.
Let the droids speak!
Although the Sith might be infamous for the quest for immortality, the Star Wars galaxy has a race of semi-immortal beings that have existed since the dawn of the franchise. Think about it, C-3PO and R2-D2 have been with fans since the very beginning, whose to say there aren't droids with even longer histories.
Although there have been rumors about a droid movie circulating the fandom, little progress has been made since 2021. However, as Filloni has expanded the universe with his Tales Of spinoff series, how long will it be before the droids get the same treatment?
We've seen C-3PO and R2-D2 get their own spinoff before, and a hypothetical Tales of the Droids series wouldn't be unwanted. However, a true, cinematic escapade worthy of a feature film needs an original droid from the dawn of the galaxy, before the Skywalkers, before the Empire...
Imagine what a droid passed down through generations across the galaxy, seeing the dawn of the High Republic, the fall of the First Order, and everything in between. That concept alone is worthy of a series, and as a great way to provide both fan service to older viewers and a user-friendly starting point to padawans in the audience.
Despite their status in the galaxy's caste system, droids are incredibly resilient, and some have managed to save entire planets with their resilience and resourcefulness. It might be time for the Jedi and Mandalorians to step out of the spotlight, and give someone else a chance to tell the tale.
