Bluey is an absolute pop culture phenomenon, and that's the understatement of the century. There's practically no parent, kid, or Disney+ subscriber who doesn't know the Heeler clan, and a full-length movie will happen one way or another.
As excited as we all are to see Bluey, Bingo, and all the rest leap up onto the big screen, Disney and Ludo have kept the cards close to their chest. That said, we do know a few things about the upcoming film, and fans are in for something new and something blue on the horizon.
If not now, when?
Ever since the announcement was made last December, fans have been on pins and needles about Bluey's future. Viewers have been kept on an information diet for months, but that doesn't mean the production hasn't let a few things slip.
Here's what we know thus far in The Bluey Movie's journey: it will be the biggest project in the partnership between Ludo Studios and The Walt Disney Company, it will be CGI-enhanced, Dave McCormack and Valerie Zanetti are reprising their roles as Chilli and Bandit, and (most shocking) Bluey Creator Joe Brumm is leaving the TV series to focus on the film.
That's all well and good, and it's definitely garnered the attention of Bluey buffs everywhere, but one detail is still missing. When will the movie come out?!
At the time of writing, the only information we have to go on is the release year shared by Bluey's official blog. The statement reads,
"The film will premiere in cinemas worldwide in 2027, followed by streaming on Disney+. The movie will also air on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia post-theatrical release."
The official announcement states only the year 2027, but if you're anything like this writer, you already have a few sneaky suspicions. Given the show's fan appeal and unbelievable success, it wouldn't be out of pocket to make Bluey a big summer blockbuster.
Consider the following: Disney and Ludo are taking their sweet time to make Bluey better, including reaching out to Oscar-winning animators and undoubtedly preparing to build some massive hype. Releasing a massive investment like this in the summer when more families can see it is too ripe of a plum to resist.
While this is all pure speculation, and we can't say our prediction is 100% accurate, we can say that both studios will undoubtedly use the time between now and then to hype fans up and give them enough time to brush up on their Bluey... maybe throw in a fourth season to sweeten the pot?
Until the release date comes, fans can enjoy all of Bluey's episodes on Disney+ and ABC iView.
