The rabbit-fox duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are back! The first trailer for Zootopia 2 just arrived (exactly at 9 am PT/12 pm ET), featuring their co-lead for the sequel, Gary De’Snake (voiced by Ke Hey Quan), and it looks like a fun time is in the works.
The teaser is a unique one, the most unusual out of any marketing material from Disney's main animated studio, even when compared to the first movie’s teaser, which featured Nick narrating. This new teaser turns up the jam, and it works to a tremendous benefit.
For one, there is no dialogue for the entire sequence, only an EDM track entitled “ZUTU”, performed by the Zootopia lemming techno group LEMEENS, who start and bookend the trailer. With the first movie featuring a certified banger from Shakira, "ZUTU" follows that up with a way catchier beat.
Another is featuring several unseen areas of Zootopia, like an underwater city, an Alps-inspired cliffside area and a rave. Judy and Nick are seen traversing from one area to another, bringing Gary with them, chasing away from their fellow cops and exploring more exotic locales of the diverse city.
But one element that might be up for speculation is the appearance of a mysterious cloaked figure who corners Judy, Nick and Gary by the edge of a building. According to Disney's company website, Zootopia 2 will involve Judy and Nick solving a mystery surrounding Gary De’Snake and his arrival in the animal metropolis, going to “unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before”.
The trailer also featured a montage of several characters of the Zootopia universe, such as Chief Bogo, Officer Clawhauser, Mr. Big, the pop star Gazelle (with Shakira reprising her role), the sloth breakout character Flash and even the incarcerated Bellwether, with most hinting of their appearance in the sequel.
Zootopia 2 reunites the original film’s directors, Jared Bush and Byron Howard, as well as producer Yvett Merino, after their success in Encanto. Aside from Huy Quan, the sequel will include Fortune Feimster as the beaver Nibbles and Quinta Brunson as quokka therapist Dr. Fuzzby.
While the wait was long for a sequel after the first film, Zootopia emerged and maintained as another solid franchise for the House of Mouse. In November 2022, the anthology series Zootopia+ was released on Disney+, serving as a solid accompaniment to the first movie. And in December 2023, Shanghai Disneyland opened its eighth themed land, City of Zootopia, along with the trackless dark ride Zootopia: Hot Pursuit.
Zootopia 2 hits theaters on the 26th of November 2025.
