'Bluey' spinoff could nix show's leads

Big things have been happening for 'Bluey,' but it might be time to let someone else lead.

By little exaggeration, Bluey is one of the most successful TV shows currently streaming. Both kids and adults have fallen under this cheeky dog's spell, and it might not stop with season four.

As Disney forms a new partnership with Ludo Studios and Bluey creator Joe Brumm develops a cinematic script. Many of us can't help but wonder what comes next. After doing some serious rewatching, the answer might be lying in plain sight.

Make room for Mum and Dad

It's previously been speculated that after the completion of the Bluey movie in 2027, Brumm might shift his focus towards another project, possibly even an adult animation. However, that doesn't mean he's 100% done with Bluey.

The show has often been called a show about parenting that kids can watch too, so why not go all the way with that idea? Make a show about the parents! Given the creator's experience with both audiences, Disney and Ludo might be sitting on a gold mine.

Let's look at the facts: the series clearly has a massive adult following that will undoubtedly eclipse the kid demographic, both Melanie Zenetti (Chilli) and Dave McCormack (Bandit) have an undeniable joy playing the characters, and (let's face it) some of the best episodes are all about them.

This writer isn't saying Brumm needs to go full Simpsons with the idea (although it would be funny hearing Bandit use other words than "biscuits"), but an adult series starring the adults from Bluey would provide a lot of fan service and a lot of viewership for Disney and Ludo.

If wishes were fishes, we'd all cast a net, but this idea might have more ground to stand on than most concepts. The show has already proven time and time again that some of the best episodes are when Bluey takes a back seat to allow the supporting cast to shine (looking at you, "Stickbird"). How long will it be before someone gets a spin-off series?

Bluey and all her episodes can be streamed on Disney+ and ABC iView.
