The Haunted Mansion is perhaps one of the most iconic dark rides in the world, and it's primarily thanks to the wonders of Disney Imagineering. With its 999 Happy Haunts and famous illusions, few theme park rides have such deep lore and history, and its characters play a massive role in keeping that alive (so to speak).
While technology and techniques have come a long way since Walt's day, many of the manor's fixtures have become as iconic as the gothic facade itself. However, not even the hallowed halls of Gracey Manor are safe from change, as a recent reveal may have shown.
Disneyland Banishes Black Widow Bride
It's been rumored for months that Disney is getting ready to replace Constance Hatchaway with a new attic bride in an upcoming overhaul of its California park, and Disney might have just given fans their first taste of her replacement in the tweet above. Take a look at the left-hand corner of the portrait in the newly-opened Madame Leota's in New Orleans Square.
This new ghostly beauty accompanied by her candlestick and black cat might be our first glimpse at the new attic bride. While she is certainly hauntingly beautiful, she also might not be as new of a bride as Disney would have some fans believe.
If you're anything like this writer, you're also something of an armchair historian when it comes to Disney. You'll also be well aware that the murderous Constance is far from the only bride to inhabit the manor. As Offhand Disney points out in his YouTube coverage, many would-be-wives have stalked the halls and terroized guests.
Pay close attention to a few details shared between the Beating Heart Bride and the one seen in the portrait. While there are certainly some stylistic choice differences between the two, it looks like Disney might be resurrecting one of the original ghosts from Disneyland's early years.
With her candle and flowing locks, she greatly resembles one of the earlier brides pointed out by Offhand Disney. In this writer's humble opinion, she's only one beating heart effect away from being a modernization of a classic character.
At the time of writing, we can't say what this will mean for the original manor's counterpart at the Walt Disney World Resort or even at places like Disneyland Paris where the bride is the central focus of the attraction's narrative. What we can say is that the manor will always have a bride in one way or another.
It's still very much in the rumor mill at this point, but if Disney was willing to give a legend like the Hatbox Ghost a facelift, who's to say the bride isn't next? Only time will tell.
Fans can still ride the original Haunted Mansion attraction at the Disneyland Resort!
