Spider-Man has practically been the poster boy for Marvel since the '60s and has consistently been a crowd favorite. Now, viewers get to see a new side of Peter Parker in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and it won't be for the last time.
The new series begins January 29th, 2025, and it looks like a comic book lover's dream (as seen in the footage below. However, is it already good enough to warrant not one but two additional seasons?
The Parker luck strikes thrice
In this writer's opinion, the new series looks like a brilliant blend of the modern MCU with the classic comics of yesteryear. Still, a third season feels a touch premature. A report from What's On Disney+'s Roger Palmer shared the following developments.
"During a recent appearance on the Movie Podcast, Brad Winderbaum, who is an executive producer on the show and also the head of Marvel TV, revealed that the show has been greenlit for a third season on Disney+ and will be meeting the show’s creator, Jeff Trammel soon to hear the pitch..."
"The first two episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, 29th January 2025, and new episodes will be released each week over the next four weeks."
Palmer also goes on to mention that while it's indeed still possible for Disney to pull the plug on the additional seasons, an animated series is still cheaper to make than a live-action one. While we might not see Tom Holland return to the screen for a good while, the new series is a great way to keep the MCU's Web Head relevant.
While his homemade look is nowhere near as iconic as his traditional costume seen in Captain America: Civil War (2016), this callback to the days of Steve Ditko and Stan Lee feels like a refreshing take on a classic character.
Along with a new-yet-familiar look, viewers can expect a few returning fan favorites from the MCU, such as Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and many more. If Marvel/Disney are willing to put this much detail into the new animated universe, it might tell how much they are willing to invest.
Three seasons might be well warranted if what we've heard from interviews and teasers is true, but we might have to wait until we actually see the show for ourselves to make a correct judgment.
