Bluey has been one of the most beloved series on streaming, even beating out various adult shows in the process. A full-length motion picture adaptation was inevitable, but not without a few changes along the way.
As Disney and Ludo join forces to bring everyone's favorite blue cartoon dog to the big screen, big changes are happening on the production front. Although Ludo Studio has been her home since day one, Bluey, Bingo, and all their friends are charting their next adventure from a different starting point.
Cosmic Dino Opens for Bluey and company
Making a full, CGI-enhanced Bluey feature takes a lot of work, a lot of artists, animators, vocal talent, and resources. That means that a TV animation studio like Ludo's home base isn't going to cut it. Enter Cosmic Dino with its massive facility, and it's an animator's dream come true!
Cartoon Brew had this to say about the recent development,
"The studio, which has completed service work on films like Scarygirl and The Sloth Lane, is providing end-to-end animation services for the cg-made Bluey movie, which is being produced in partnership with Ludo Studio, BBC Studios, and The Walt Disney Company."
"Cosmic Dino’s new facilities includes a 40-seater 4K HDR cinema for reviews, creatively-inspired edit suites, and an expansive open-plan office dedicated to collaboration between directors, artists, and producers..."
Needless to say, big things are happening for this production, and it appears no expense is being spared to make Bluey's cinematic debut the best it can be. With creator Joe Brumm stepping away from the TV studio to focus all his energy on the film, and rumors of big-name celebrities stepping into the recording studio, the hype is certainly building.
In this writer's opinion, Disney and Ludo both have a massive hit in the works, but only if they can work together and not drop the ball. CGI is a risky choice for a show with such a definitive look as Bluey's, but that doesn't mean improvements can't be made. From the sound of it, the creators have a lot to play with at this new facility, and more effort can be devoted to making everything happen.
