Ludo Studios is growing increasingly notorious about breadcrumbing audiences for season 4, and fans are still wagging their tails for their next hit. However, the studio dropped a free episode on YouTube that might give us a glimpse into the future... by looking at the past.
Part of the lore of the show is Bandit Heeler's role as an archeologist, prominently referenced in the "Curry Quest" episode. However, the show brings this factor to the forefront in the new Bluey Bonus Bit, which was just released last night.
Throwing fans a bone
The short "Archeology" features Bandit giving a lecture about a recent discovery, producing a large femur from a primitive canine ancestor. Bandit goes into great detail about how this discovery paints a picture of their past. While the technical terms go over the heads of some, it's all a setup to one big punchline as he can't help but give into his "primitive" instincts and start gnawing on the bone.
It's short, it's silly, and it's ridiculous, but could it serve a purpose in furthering the show? Any Bluey buff worth their salt knows that Joe Brumm and his team of artists and animators always act with intention. So, it makes sense that this could be either a callback to something in the show, or the setup for something in season four.
This writer has binged enough of the beloved series to know that the creators love a good build-up (just look at "The Sign"), and nothing is ever just there for laughs. I think the Bluey's world of a dog-inhabited Brisbane is about to get a whole lot bigger.
It's been speculated for some time that the show will expand to include more members of Bluey's supporting cast. As demonstrated by the minisode "Alongside," we've already been given one recent glimpse into the world apart from Bluey's backyard, and it won't be the only one.
At the risk of sounding like a full conspiracy nut, "Archeology" might be the first glimpse into a bigger world of the Blue-niverse, and we might even get a trip back in time with a Bluey flavor. Either way, only the writers know for sure.
Bluey and her episodes and minisodes can be viewed on Disney+.
